Introducing Jim Gaunt

May 7 2013
Jim Gaunt’s paintings are made up of collection of narrative elements taken from his own experience, or as he terms it ‘looking out on the world from Franklin Road’. Sketched people and animals, objects and brushstrokes sit on a stark white background and while some are allegorical, like ‘We better start to pack’, with others it's up to the viewer, a BYO of narrative, meanings, and ideas. Gaunt’s use of colour is intuitive, enjoying the beauty of random colour simply thrown together, it is a homage to abstract painting within the figurative pieces. You can see a few preview works on display upstairs at the gallery now, or look out for his full show ‘Episodes’ in late June.
